The Rosie Festival is a vision for a week long festival produced each year during March's Womens
History Month that will highlight feminist theater, female playwrights, political plays, and performance art
both past and present in the hope that through art and activism we can shape and inspire the thoughts and
actions for the next generation of feminists, democratic activists and political thinkers.
ROSIE IN EDUCATION
1) Inspires a new generation of voters to participate and value the democratic process.
2) Teaches children about the suffrage movement in the United States and the democratic process in a fun, entertaining, and
accessible way
3) Encourages children to think, act and be themselves...which will lead to a more informed and educated generation of citizens and
voters
The Rosie Festival Suffrage Collection is a variety show that contains a small collection of historical
one acts/playlets & suffrage/political plays and songs from before women had the right to vote and will
scan the times to newer plays and songs from our time.
Before women had the right to vote they would gather on small scales and in their living room (aka
Parlors) they would perform plays for each other- some had plots that were meant to inspire political
change.
Suffrage Parlor plays are funny, enchanting and inspiring!
All plays and songs will revolve around the theme who has the "right to vote" and why use it?
The program is appropriate for artists, activists, men, women, adults, families and school age children;
The collection is not only historical and educational but fun!
We hope to inspire a new generation of voters and activists by performing the suffrage collection in Libraries
and Schools in the NYC area! The suffrage collection contains Parlor plays written in the 1800's and early
1900's that portray the suffrage movement in a whole new light! From the mad hatter to talking parrots kids
will love learning about the VOTE! We will use theater, songs and charades to teach a new generation what the
vote is, why it is so important, and what it means to have the right to vote in America!
